Learn how to draw a face with shading, from Michelangelo’s David statue. Narrated pencil drawing.

For this drawing you just need some soft pencils (4B or 6B), a piece of paper, an eraser and a little time.

The sculpture “David” is a masterpiece of Renaissance art created by Michelangelo between 1501 and 1504. The statue of a man was commissioned for the roofline of Florence Cathedral, Italy, but at 17 feet tall and more than 6 tons in weight another place had to be found to display it in Florence. A traditional way to learn to draw is to draw from classical statues.
