In This video I have clearly presented Different types of Pencils and the grades of them. You must have noticed that there is a number on the top of the pencil. Do you understand the meaning of this number? We use several types of pencils for drawing. In this video I have told about different types of pencils and their work and which kind of pencil is best for drawing.

Types of Pencil:
There are two main types of pencils used for drawing.
Number 1: Graphite pencil
Number 2: charcoal pencil

Graphite pencils have a wide range of grades and are useful for sophisticated drawings which require finer detailing.

Charcoal is perfect for sketching and hitting those really dark values, however it is generally much darker and rougher than graphite and more prone to smudging.

Grades of Pencil:
(9H, 8H, 7H, 6H, 5H, 4H, 3H, 2H, F, HB, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B, 7B, 8B, 9B, 10B PENCILS)
The “B” gradings are on the soft and black side and the “H” gradings are on the hard and light side. “F” is in-between.
B = Blackness
H = Hardness
F = Fine.

The higher the number of H, the harder the pencil is. And the higher the number of B, the softer the pencil is. Again, The higher the number of H, the lead is narrower and lighter. On the other hand, the higher the number of B, the lead is bolder and darker.

Use of Pencils:
H grade pencils are used in very light sketching, like drafting and engineering drawings.
HB is the combination of Hard and Dark which is standard writing pencil and Perfect for school going kids.
2B, 4B, 6B etc. are used for picture drawing and sketching. Generally, user of these types of pencils are Artists. They sometimes also use charcoal pencil for advance level sketch where need more dark shade.
